Double Standard is an instrumental jazz duo featuring Anna Martin-Scrase on cello and Dean Gray on guitar.

With decades of musical experience between them, they create a beautiful, romantic style of music, performing a unique and eclectic blend of vintage jazz and pop songs from the 1920s, 30s and 40s, gypsy-jazz improvisations, Bach’s 2 part inventions for keyboard and classic Hollywood movie themes.

Rich and sonorous cello lines, evoking the vocal stylings of Ella Fitzgerald and Julie London, float over a carpet of mellow chordal accompaniment. This is guitar and cello as you have never heard it.

Beth n Ben’s fusion of genre, and tongue in cheek lyrical style always turns heads and gets the crowd moving wherever they go.

Fresh off the back of the release of their third EP, ‘Scenic Roots’, these Canberra favourites are currently preparing to record and tour a live album showcasing updated arrangements of their repertoire.

Since the release of their first EP ‘Boarding Pass’ in 2010, Beth n Ben have developed their songwriting style, and experimented with arrangement and instrumentation, exploring new and exciting ways to blend Beth Monzo’s jazz, funk and soul background with Ben Drysdale’s folk, blues, and reggae roots.

Now with three EPs (Boarding Pass 2010, Economy Class 2011, and Scenic Roots2013), and five East Coast tours under their belt, Beth n Ben have spent the last year collaborating with a lineup of musicians from a diverse range of Canberra’s greatest original bands of the last decade in preparation for the live album.

The lead singles from each EP (‘Walk On’, ‘Little Lady’ and ‘Back of the Line’) have been aired on major networks such as Triple J and ABC Coast as well and community stations across the country including 4ZZZ Folk Buddies (Brisbane), Bay FM Crossroads (Byron Bay), PSFM Fresh Fridays (Salamander Bay), 2RES Drive time (Sydney), 2XX Drive time (Canberra), 3WAY Drive time and Breakfast (Warnambool), 3WPR Breakfast (Wangaratta), 3SER Drive time (Melbourne), SUV Australian Music Show (Adelaide), and Tjuma Pulka The Lunchtime Roll (Calgooorlie).

The bands festival credits to date include a support set for Chris Isaak as part of the Enlighten festival, main stage at Summer Rhythm festival along side the Beautiful Girls, Lyre Bird (2nd Main) stage at Peats Ridge Festival, second headline at The Northern Beaches Music Festival, main stage Corinbank Festival, main stage at the Byron Bay Love Jam, headline at The Manly International Jazz Festival (non-jazz stage), and the Manly International Food festival.

Beth n Ben have also enjoyed great success at a number of featured events in Sydney's Northern Beaches such as 'The Shack', 'The Manly Fig' etc'.
