Mitch is quite simply one of the best white soul singers of our time. His keyboard skills are also dazzling.
With a career spanning more than 20 years singing and performing he recently won the hearts of millions of people throughout Australia and the rest of the world with his emotionally charged heartfelt performances on the Voice Australia where he was the top finalist on the winning team Seal. Following the Voice journey he has continued to write perform and sellout shows wherever he goes and is currently working on his latest album |
“The Morrisons play big band folk, like a mash up of both Inside Llewyn Davies and Oh Brother Where Art Thou’s T-Bone Burnett” – Concrete Playground.
“An incredible bluegrass/country/folk 7 piece” – AU Review. “The Morrisons prove that Sydney bands can pick with the best of the them” – Timber & Steel. Winners of the 2014 folk/acoustic song of the year at the Australian Song Writers Association Awards, The Morrisons play bluegrass, alt-country and folk from an Australian perspective. They have performed at major festivals around the country including Out On The Weekend, Secret Garden, and The National Folk Festival, and have supported highly acclaimed international artists Lake Street Dive (US) and Lindi Ortega (CAN). They launched Country and Inner Western along with Lost Highway (Universal Music’s country label), where they have hosted artists like Shane Nicholson, Catherine Britt and Emma Swift. Their show Man of constant sorrow: A tribute to the music of Oh Brother Where Art Thou has sold out three years in a row, with a cast featuring Ngaiire, All Our Exes Live In Texas and Brian Campeau. They have appeared regularly on ABC and FBI radio with a recent highlight being their performance of Paul Kelly’s bluegrass albums Smoke and Foggy Highway at Sydney’s iconic venue the Basement (March 2015). |
From the murky depths of the Balgowlalooga swamp, rises the smokey mud stained rhythms of the Swamp Donkeys.
Riding astride the donkeys like a golf ball balanced on eight toothpicks is the auburn vagabond known as Mr Daddy Long Legs. He can be heard growling his "Gut Butter Blues" throughout the urban forest. When these creatures of musical madness step together, the sound of their march is like an infusion of blues/rock/rambles. Their journey has taken them to various festivals and venues throughout the distant corners of Australia. Once bitten by their muscular mating songs, the venom spreads through your system with an addictive force causing its victim to dance like a possessed penguin on crack. A musical experience that has to be seen to be believed. They are: Aaron 'Daddy Long Legs' Houston - Guitar/vocals, Jay McCray - Harp, Stevie de Wilde - Drums, Felix Funk Master Flex Akurangi - Bass After journeying across vast landscapes, Daddy Longlegs & the Swamp Donkeys have returned home to share their debut single 'Salty Sea Dog' (out now). As heard on Double J and community radio across the country, the song is a journey within itself featuring the howling vocals & gritty dobro from Aaron Houston aka Daddy Longlegs, the wailing harmonica of Jay McKay, driving bass grooves of Felix Akurangi and thumping drums of Steve de Wilde. We love their music and the energy they transmit to the audiences. |
