The award winning collaboration of Guitarist/Composer Gavin and Singer/Songwriter Niyati Libotte, Goldfynch is that something new and different we've been waiting for in Sydney: original, art-focussed, multicultural, contemporary fusion. Is it alt-pop? Is it jazz? Is it folk or world? All the above. Goldfynch, like the songbird itself, is about the message rather than the style. Hope and positivity shine through stories of challenge and change. Influences blend Ella and Air, the Beatles and Radiohead, Madeleine Peyroux and A.R. Raiman, Eva Cassidy and Coldplay. Genres switch from Indian, to Latin to French, reflecting the lived experiences of the band-members. Gavin is a visual artist who earned his stripes in instrumental jazz guitar at the Perth Con and in Brazil, performing in his Latin jazz outfits Urban Gypsies / Gavin Libotte, which have toured the world and festivals for over 20 years. Niyati was born in India but grew up on the Northern Beaches of Sydney. She has a rich background in writing, audiovisual storytelling and emotive vocal performance through the jazz haunts of France and Germany. Blending their mutual love for and eclectic taste in music, art and film, the result is something special; a rich merger of tone, emotion and energy that takes you on many journeys - by turns cinematic and aspirational, above all human. This special cameo concert features the Trio with the incredible Byron Marks on keys and percussion, as well as offering select gems from Gavin Libotte's five previous instrumental albums under the Gavin Libotte / Urban Gypsies labels. Goldfynch's eponymous debut vocal album released digitally just before lockdown in June, 2021, and thus far has been awarded: ** WINNER Silver (Outstanding Achievement) Global Music Awards 2021 - ALBUM ** WINNER Silver (Outstanding Achievement - art pop) Global Music Awards 2021 - Opus ** FINALIST (alternative, AAA) International Acoustic Music Awards 2021 - Maya ** HIGHLY COMMENDED (5 Stars) UK Songwriting Contest & International Songwriting Contest 2021 - Ballooning Over Paris ** COMMENDED (5 Stars) UK Songwriting Contest & International Songwriting Contest 2021 - Green Grass |
“The Guitar and Voice of The Bondi Cigars & The Foreday Riders bringing it back home, with his namesake band”
In a time when the Blues is in great danger of being swallowed by the all-encompassing term “roots music,” the very concept of a Blues band seems to be almost a quaint idea. SHANE PACEY + TRIO…are that rare (and becoming rarer!) thing… A dedicated Blues band, rather than a solo star with supporting musicians. Although Shane’s other band, The Bondi Cigars, is still very much a going concern he recently felt the strong urge to revisit the music that turned him on when he first started playing such as that of of Peter Green and the short sharp style coming out of Chess Records in the 50’s and 60s. Shane states “The main aim is to create something totally different to The Cigars” - a no-nonsense trip through the Blues back pages played with Shane’s customary attack and passion – and a band that hits you right in solar plexus.
