Kevin Bennett, well-respected indigenous Singer/Songwriter with Sydney Country/ Blues/ Roots band The Flood, Aria nominee and 7 x CMAA Gold Guitar winner….2006 (with The Flood for Best Group), 2011(with Kasey Chambers for Vocal Collaboration), 2017 (with Bennett, Bowtell and Urquhart for Best Alternative Album and Best Group and in 2019 for Vocal Collaboration), with The Flood (for Best Group) in 2020 and most recently winning Heritage Song Of The Year with Luke O’Shea at the 2021 Gold Guitar Awards, writes relevant, contemporary Australian music containing elements of Country, Blues and Rock – telling stories of where he’s from and where he might be going, his past and his possible future….he sings his life.
The Flood has recorded 7 universally acclaimed albums including ‘The Ballad Of KB’, which was named in Iain Shedden’s Top Twenty Australian Country Albums
of all time, while Rhythms magazine calls The Flood ‘the best Australian Roots band since The Dingoes.’
Kevin Bennett and The Flood’s latest offering, ‘Blood Red Ties’ is concerned with
family, roots, country and ALL the ties that bind. It speaks to, and is informed by, the Australian landscape and the people of this wide, brown land.
So whether it’s solo, with The Flood or Bennett, Bowtell & Urquhart, KB is still making music that needs to be heard.
The Flood line-up is KB (Vox/Guitar), Jeremy Edwards (Guitars/Vox), Wayne ‘Killer’ Kellett (Bass/Vox) and Mik McCartin (Drums/Vox)
Chasing the Moon is inspired by the romantic and swinging sounds of Django Rheinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. They
create a delicious feast of heart-thumping swing,
Latin, blues and modern sounds. They have received airplay on ABC Jazz, 2MBSFM and Eastside
Radio.
The group is led by vocalist and violinist Kathy Bluff along with saxophone/ flute player Paul Burjan. The two musicians have a rapport
informed by many years of playing music together. Kathy Bluff delivers her
distinctive style of soulful vocals and swinging jazz violin with warmth and
charm that melds with the elegant fluidity of Burjan’s saxophone and flute.
Well respected Sydney jazz guitarist, John Blenkhorn provides the rhythmic pulse and beautiful solos played with flair and attention to detail. That essential Parisian ambience comes with the piano accordion of the dynamic Garry Steel an engaging performer and gifted musician. The rhythm section of Merv Sequiera on double bass and versatile drummer Mike Quigley lay down the best of grooves.
The band has performed at Illawarra, Newcastle, Dubbo, Moruya and Wagga Jazz festivals and are regular performers at Sydney’s Foundry616, Leichhardt
Bowling Club, Humph Hall and Camelot Lounge. “Their evocation of gypsy swing, cool blues, and continental jazz styles is peerless among Australian groups. The quality of the arrangements, the virtuosity of the instrumentalists, and Kathy Bluff’s vocals are simply
outstanding.” – Tony Smith, Trad & Now Magazine, December 2022
“Often compared to Charlie Hunter, Tuck Andress, Julian Lage and Tommy Emmanuel… The jazz harmony is there, but worked seamlessly into pieces that could almost be considered closer to instrumental pop.”
– Jazz Guitar Today
“But it takes an impossibly gifted player to improvise independent melodies, harmonies, and bass lines—all at the same time—while maintaining an impeccable groove. Australia’s Adam Miller is one such rare phenomenon.”
